A new stage of the World Series of Triathlon arrives, this time the circuit reaches Gold Coast (Australia).
From Australia Fernando Alarza that takes the exit with the number nº2 sends us his impressions on the test, the circuit and his state of form.
“We reached the Gold Coast (Australia) second race of the World Series of this 2017.
This time Gold Coast will be a different race to those we have been seeing here in recent years, change of circuit and sprint distance.
Regarding the circuit, one lap swimming, 4 laps on bike and 2 laps running.
Swimming is done from pontoon outlet, you must be attentive to the currents both the day before and the day of the test to choose the best position in the pontoon outlet. After swimming we face a completely flat bike without being too technical. The difficulty of this circuit, as is usual, will be marked by the twists and steady starts as well as the wind that is making these last days in the area.
After the bike a completely flat foot race in which you can run very fast; but everything will depend on the wind at the time of the race.
I think in general it’s going to be a fast triathlon where the wind can be a protagonist at certain times, so from the start we will have to be well positioned in the race.
After what happened in Abu Dhabi, I have taken a lot of confidence in my foot race, I think I can run very fast here; but to run fast and to be able to compete the race we have focused on improving swimming during these weeks and I think we have taken one more point to be able to leave well positioned in this sector.
The last weeks of training have been spent at home. Weeks in which we have focused on improving swimming, being even more consistent running and being able to be faster and faster. Worse these weeks also has taken a fundamental role in bike training, for them we wanted to give a hard point to the trainings with several cycling races that have allowed us to learn to become even better in the squads, to know how to fight the position better and to have a pace more in bike, something that can favor us in the last sector.
I get to Gold Coast very motivated, the trainings have gone as planned and you have a pretty good state, now only wait for Saturday, everything goes as planned and try to add another good result facing the general of the Series World Cups.
